1. WHAT ARE COOKIES?

1.1 Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you access skulearn.com. They allow the Platform to recognise your device, remember your preferences, and function securely and efficiently.

1.2 This Cookies Policy explains what cookies we use, why we use them, and how you can control them. It forms part of Skulearn's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

2. WHO SETS COOKIES ON THIS PLATFORM?

  • 2.1 Cookies on the Platform are set by:

    • Skulearn Pty Ltd ("first-party cookies") - for Platform functionality, security, and analytics

    • Authorised third-party service providers ("third-party cookies") - including our payment processor Paystack, analytics providers, and content delivery providers

2.2 Third-party cookies are governed by those providers' own privacy and cookie policies. Skulearn is not responsible for third-party cookie practices.

3. TYPES OF COOKIES WE USE

3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the Platform to function. They enable core features such as user authentication, security, session management, and access to course content. Without them, the Platform cannot operate. These cookies do not require your consent as they are technically necessary.

3.2 Performance & Analytics Cookies

These cookies help us understand how users interact with the Platform - including which pages are visited, how long users stay, and where errors occur. This information is used in aggregate and anonymised form to improve Platform performance and content quality. These cookies are set only with your consent.

3.3 Functional Cookies

These cookies remember your preferences and settings - such as your language preference, display settings, or previously completed course progress - to provide a more personalised experience. These cookies are set only with your consent.

3.4 Payment Processing Cookies

Our payment processor, Paystack, may set cookies necessary to process transactions securely. These are third-party cookies governed by Paystack's own privacy and cookie policy, available on the Paystack website. Skulearn does not store or access full payment card data.

3.5 Cookies We Do Not Use

Skulearn does not use cookies to:

  • Sell or share your personal data with advertisers

  • Track your activity across unrelated third-party websites

  • Build advertising profiles or deliver behavioural advertising

  • Profile Minor Users for any commercial purpose

4. COOKIES & MINOR USERS

4.1 Skulearn applies enhanced restrictions on cookie use for Minor Users (users under 18). We do not use analytics, functional, or marketing cookies in a way that profiles or targets Minor Users.

4.2 Strictly necessary cookies apply to Minor Users to the extent required for Platform security and functionality only.

5. YOUR COOKIE CHOICES & CONSENT

5.1 When you first access the Platform, you will be presented with a cookie consent notice that allows you to accept or decline non-essential cookies.

5.2 You may withdraw or update your cookie preferences at any time through the cookie settings tool available on the Platform or through your browser settings.

5.3 You may also manage cookies through your browser. Common browser options include:

  • Blocking all cookies (note: this will prevent the Platform from functioning correctly)

  • Deleting cookies already stored on your device

  • Configuring your browser to notify you before a cookie is stored

5.4 Disabling strictly necessary cookies will significantly impair or prevent your use of the Platform.

6. GLOBAL COMPLIANCE

6.1 Skulearn's use of cookies is designed to comply with applicable cookie and privacy law in all jurisdictions in which the Platform operates, including:

  • The EU ePrivacy Directive and GDPR (European Union and UK)

  • The Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (South Africa)

  • The Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles (Australia)

  • The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada)

  • Applicable state-level privacy laws (United States)

6.2 Where your jurisdiction requires opt-in consent for non-essential cookies, that requirement will be applied when you access the Platform from that jurisdiction.

7. DATA RETENTION

7.1 Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain on your device until they expire or you delete them. Cookie lifespans vary by type and provider. Specific lifespans are disclosed in the cookie consent tool on the Platform.

8. UPDATES TO THIS POLICY

8.1 Skulearn may update this Cookies Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, applicable law, or our cookie practices. Material changes will be communicated via the Platform or by email. The current version is always available at skulearn.com.
